Online Therapy in Minnesota
TELEHEALTH COUNSELING CAN HELP
What is Online Therapy
Online therapy (also commonly called telehealth, video therapy, & teletherapy) allows you to connect with your therapist from the comfort of your own space, using software similar to facetime or skype, but secure and confidential. It’s amazing because you get the same level of support that you’d get from me if you were sitting in my office, minus all the stress of getting there. As a matter of fact, research shows that video therapy is as effective as in-office therapy.
Why Counseling Online? What is the Benefit of Online Therapy?
At Metanoia Therapy, we have found that the idea of going (leaving your space, getting in the car, dealing with traffic) to therapy can be one of the biggest barriers to receiving therapy. This is why it is so important to me to be able to offer teletherapy.
Online Therapy Increases Accessibility
Online therapy eliminates transportation time and cost. We have found it especially helpful for folks that are unable to get away from the office, parents of small children who are unable to leave home, people that live far away from my office, and folks with transportation difficulties.
It can be challenging to leave work and make it on time to your appointments, especially if your dealing with the traffic coming from downtown Minneapolis or downtown St. Paul.
And if you live in a rural part of Minnesota, you know that the options for therapists are limited.
Benefits of Telehealth are Supported by Research
Research has found that video therapy is as effective as in-person therapy. And thanks to a highly secure connection, our sessions will remain private.
Online Counseling is Great for College Students
Most colleges, like University of Minnesota, Minnesota State Universities in Mankato and Moorehead, and St. Cloud State University, have counseling resources located on campus, it can often be challenging to get in for an appointment. And the thought getting to your appointment off-campus during your small time in-between classes is just enough to increase your stress. So scheduling your therapy online, is a fantastic and easy way to take care of yourself.
Online Counseling in Rural Minnesota
In rural areas there can often be a smaller number of therapists and their availability is often limited. Being able to connect with your ideal therapist without having to make the drive is one of the greatest benefits of online therapy.
Whatever the reason, if you’re curious about video therapy, schedule a free consultation today.
Where Can I Do Video Therapy From?
When Metanoia Therapy therapists provide video therapy we am located in the privacy of our offices. And you can begin your therapy from the comfort and convenience of your own space - whether that is your home, car, office… wherever. Sometimes home is crowded, so some folks will choose to go for a walk, that can work too. All you need is a COMFORTABLE and PRIVATE spot. Metanoia Therapy provides therapy to anyone anywhere in the state of Minnesota.
How Does Online Counseling Work?
Other than connecting through a secure video software, online counseling works exactly the same as any therapy attended in-office. At Metanoia Therapy, we use a secure and HIPAA compliant video software that allows you and your therapist to connect simply with a click of a button. No software to download - it is full service therapy right through your internet on your laptop, cellphone, tablet, or desktop.
WHAT DO YOU NEED?
You’ll need a computer, a tablet, or smartphone with a camera and microphone.
Internet access (a strong wifi or an ethernet cable). If you can stream Netflix, you should be good to go.
Privacy… room/space to hold confidential conversation with your therapist
TIPS FOR A GREAT VISIT:
Join the video session a few minutes early in order to test your audio and video settings. *If using a smartphone, you’ll be prompted to download the telehealth app.
Using headphones will help reduce background noise.
Adjust lighting, too much light behind you will make you look dark on the screen.
Close out programs and turn off notifications.
