What is Anxiety.

Anxiety is one of the most common mental health concerns and impacts over 19% of adults and 7% of children/teens in the United States.

Feeling anxious at certain times in life is normal and healthy. Our feelings inform us of many things and anxiety is your body’s natural response to stress.

Merriam-Webster defines anxious as “characterized by extreme uneasiness of mind or brooding fear about some contingency”.

When your anxious feelings are excessive and strong enough that they begin to interfere with your day to day life, you may benefit from some extra support.

Anxiety Symptoms.

Anxiety disorders can show up in many different ways. Some people may experience panic attacks, social anxiety, and phobias.

You may be experiencing some of these symptoms:

  • Lots of worry thoughts - so much that they are hard to control

  • Sleep issues

  • Difficulty concentrating

  • Feeling easily irritable

  • Body aches and muscle tension

  • Shortness of breath

  • Feeling nervous, restless, or fidgety

  • Tiredness or weakness

Research shows that avoidance of anxiety increases anxiety.

Coping & Healing Anxiety.

  • Physical activity, healthy eating, and a good sleep routine are great steps to reduces your anxiety.

  • Practice paced breathing. Take a deep breath in, counting to 4. Exhale slowly, counting to 6.

  • Put your thoughts on trial. One way to challenge your fears / worry thoughts is to ask if they are true.

  • Aromatherapy. Use essential oils or a candle of scents that you find calming.

  • Journal your worry thoughts.
